Union of Cinematographers sent an objection letter to the Embassy of France and the board of Cannes Film Festival

Board of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan sent an objection letter to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan Zacharie Gross and management of the Cannes International Film Festival.

Press service of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan noted that events in the film “Should the Wind Fall” (“Si Le Vent Tombe”) presented to the 73rd International Cannes Film Festival to be held in 2020 and made by an Armenian director Nora Martirosyan occur in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, in the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and this film entirely serves to strengthen the feeling of hostility towards our country and our nation. This so-called film is intended to be screened in Venice, New York, Deauville, Toronto, San Sebastian, Angouleme, Pusan and Lyon. As it is seen, creators of this film do not want to hide their intention to expand the scope of the film to further inflame hostility between peoples and to increase hatred against Azerbaijan and our people who long to return to their native lands.

In this regard the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan will do its best to prevent the screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival aiming to impose infamous ideological intentions of the so-called regime not recognized by the international community, the UN and international organizations on the French people and citizens of other countries. Board of the Union of Cinematographers has sent an objection letter related to this matter both to the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan and management of the Cannes International Film Festival in this context. We hope to achieve our goal.
