On August 2, the Nizami Cinema Center hosted a ceremony dedicated to the National Film Day and the 121th anniversary of the founding of Azerbaijani cinema.

 

According to the press service of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the event featured video clips reflecting the activities of Azerbaijani cinema throughout the year, film presentations in the capital and regions, international festivals, film days, nights, anniversaries and movie shooting processes.

Speaking at the event, First Deputy Minister of Culture Vagif Aliyev congratulated the filmmakers on their professional holiday and noted that this remarkable day has been celebrated for 19 years by the decision of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The Deputy Minister said that these days were remembered as significant events for filmmakers. Thus, on July 31, the Head of State signed a decree awarding a group of filmmakers with honorary titles, individual scholarships, honorary diplomas and medals for their contribution to the development of Azerbaijani cinematography. Noting the relevant orders signed by the President, the Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the President on behalf of the filmmakers for all this.

Vagif Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijani films have been successfully shown at various international film festivals and have been nominated for the best film, best actor, director and scenario.

Afterwards, a group of filmmakers were presented with honorary decrees of the Ministry of Culture on the occasion of the remarkable day.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan, People's Artist Shafiga Mammadova said that the organization had given awards to the film figures, as well as veteran artists.

The Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Cinematographers Union, People’s Artist Shafiga Mammadova spoke about established for young filmmakers, as well as about the Hasan Seyidbayli and Rasim Ojagov medals, and the scholarship in honor of the 100th anniversary of the famous playwright and film director Hasan Seyidbayli.

She presented the organisation's biggest award, the “National Film Award”, to People's Artist, filmmaker Ramiz Fataliyev for his contributions to Azerbaijani cinema, as well as the 75th anniversary and national artist, screen writer, Sheikh Abdul Mahmudov for his contribution to the development of national cinema. She said that producer Fariz Ahmadov was awarded the “New Breath” National Cinema Award for 2019.

In the event, feature films by young directors Kanan Yashar “The Breath at the Dawn”, Parvin Hasanov “News” as well as a project named “Seatings” by Orkhan Agazade were screened.
